Talking Heads

Partly translation of an article about and interview with Malin Anneteg, from the Swedish paper 'Dagens Nyheter' of January 11, 1997: (with thanks to Agneta Hansson)

When Malin Anneteg came to New York, she realized that her apartment was too small to continue with her painting. So she took up writing poetry again, which she read in clubs and bars in south Manhattan.

Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth saw a video-film recorded at a small bar called Bob's in New York in which Malin read her own poetry. They thought there was something special about the lyrics as well as about Malin herself.

Malin tells us about the hectic autumn when she was touring with The Heads on the east coast and in Canada. She read 'No More Lonely Nights' which she also recorded together with The Heads in their studio two years ago. They worked very hard together, but there was no record company who wanted to release the exceptional material.

"It was neither pure music nor poetry according to the companies. But I know now that I work together with Chris and Tina again".

During the tour she has been described as a wizard of words and her performance on one of the songs on The Heads' `No Talking - Just Head' has been reviewed as truly remarkable.

Her poetry is influenced by black poets with African roots, where poetry is about history and traditions.

"Writing on paper is important, but less important than how it sounds, so I read it aloud to myself trying to find the rhythm and the sound I'm looking for".

After the hectic autumn she is back in the bars of Manhattan where she reads her new lyrics to the accompaniment of different guitarplayers.
